About Worth
Worth started with a simple frustration: personal finance apps are either too simple (they track spending and nothing else) or too complex (they require a finance degree to navigate). We wanted something in between — a calm, editorial interface that brings every piece of your financial life together without overwhelming you.
The name comes from the question every financial decision reduces to: what is this worth to me? Not just in dollars — in time, in freedom, in peace of mind. Worth is the app that helps you see the answer clearly.
What we believe
Your data is yours
We built Worth local-first because financial data is too sensitive to trust to a startup's cloud. The self-hosted version will always be free, and your data never leaves your machine.
Education > anxiety
Most finance apps show you scary numbers and hope you'll figure out what to do. Worth includes 160+ original articles that teach the concepts behind the numbers — so you know why your net worth matters, not just what it is.
AI should be grounded
The AI Assistant reads your real data before answering. It doesn't hallucinate financial advice from thin air — it looks at your actual balances, budgets, and goals, and points you to relevant articles from the Learn library.
Design matters
Financial software doesn't have to look like a government form. Worth uses DM Serif Display for headlines, a forest-green and gold palette, and the kind of whitespace that lets you think. Money is emotional enough — the app shouldn't add to the noise.
The stack
Worth is built with Next.js 14, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Neon Postgres (with Drizzle ORM), Plaid for bank connections, CoinGecko for crypto prices, and Claude (Anthropic) for the AI Assistant. The marketing site and Learn library are statically generated for performance and SEO.
